תַּפְקִיד
תַּפְקִידm. (פָּקַד) 1) command, charge; trust.Pl. תַּפְקִידִים Lev. R. s. 1, beg. (ref. to Ps. 103:20, sq.) עליוניםע״י שהן יכולין לעמוד בתַפְקִידָיו שלוכ׳ because the celestial beings can stand by (always fulfill) the orders of the Lord, the text says, bless the Lord, ye all his hosts: but as to the earthly beings, who cannot (always) stand by the orders of the Lord, the text says, ‘bless the Lord, ye his messengers; Yalk. Ps. 860 בתַפְקִידוֹ (sing.). Koh. R. to 1, 4 דורע״י שאינו עומד בתפקידיווכ׳ a generation of men, because it does not abide by the orders of the Lord, decays, but the earth, which does abide Ib. (מעמדת) תַּפְקִידֶיהָוכ׳ the earth preserves her trusts (fruits preserved in the ground or by admixtures of earth). Y.Ber.V, 9b top תפקידיה, v. next w.; a. e. 2) visit, attendance, esp. copulation; בקש ת׳ to seek copulation, long for. Gen. R. s. 13 בשעה שהמטר … תַּפְקִידָהּ when the rain falls (in the spring), the cattle ruts. Lev. R. s. 19, end אתה מבקש תַּפְקִידְךָ … תַּפְקִידוֹ thou hast sexual desires, and has Jechoniah none? Lam. R. to I, 4 הכל מבקשין תַּפְקִידָן all things have natural instincts; אפי׳ ארזים מבקשין תַּפְקִידָן even cedars have their instincts (love their native climate); אפי׳ דרכים מבקשין תפקידן even roads have their desires (mourn when they are deserted); a. e.
